The cetrafs name and logo

cetrafs and the cetrafs logo are trademarks of Massimo Cetra. What you can do with the name without asking, what needs permission, and other trademarks.

cetrafs™ and the cetrafs logo are trademarks of Massimo Cetra, who created cetrafs, maintains it, and runs this website.

The name and logo tell people that what they are using is the real cetrafs, built and released by this project. This page explains what you can do with them.

The licenses don’t cover the name

cetrafs is free software, under the GPL (the kernel module) and the AGPL or a commercial license (the tools), as described on the project status page. This documentation is under CC BY 4.0. Those licenses let you use, change and redistribute the code and the text. They give no rights to the cetrafs name or logo. You can fork the code freely, but you can’t take the name with it.

What you can do without asking

  • Talk about cetrafs by name: in articles, reviews, talks, tutorials, forum posts, comparisons and courses.
  • Say that your product works with cetrafs, or supports it, as long as it is true and doesn’t suggest the project endorses you.
  • Package cetrafs for a Linux distribution under its own name. Distribution patches for building, packaging and integration are fine, as long as they don’t change how cetrafs behaves or its on-disk format.
  • Link to this website and the official repositories, and use the unmodified logo to illustrate such a link.

What needs permission

  • A modified version. If you change how cetrafs behaves or its on-disk format and distribute the result, give it a different name. “Based on cetrafs” in its description is fine; “cetrafs” as its name is not.
  • Names that include cetrafs. Products, companies, services, domain names, social media accounts or package names that contain “cetrafs” or something confusingly similar.
  • Implied endorsement. Anything that suggests Massimo Cetra or the cetrafs project sponsors, certifies or supports you, your product or your service.
  • The logo in any other use, or a modified version of the logo.

To ask for permission, contact Massimo Cetra through GitHub: github.com/ctrix.

Official sources

The only official source of cetrafs releases and documentation is this website, https://cetrafs.com/, and the repositories it links to. Builds or packages from elsewhere are not reviewed by the project.
